Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is a platform game developed in 1997 and since then Commented well. It is the first episode of a series of five chapters.
The game is centered on the figure of Abe, a slave who works in Mudokon RuptureFarms, a meat processing plant. When he discovers that his boss is planning his death, he decides to escape and help other Mudokons slaves along the way. The player assumes the role of Abe in this adventure and to escape the factory before embarking on the difficult journey to rebuild his people.
At the time, Abe's Oddysee was praised for innovative gameplay, good graphics and scenes transition very attractive. However, the difficulties of learning the controls and the ability to save the game at checkpoints only took a bit of its luster.
This game has the classic look of the platform in two-dimensional scenes moving horizontally. When the player reaches the edge of the screen, the environment is replaced. Most screens include various puzzles must be solved through Abe's unique abilities.
Any attack is fatal to Abe, but he has no life limit.
While the focus of the game screens are superimposed, the secondary focus is to rescue Mudokons from slavery. The main skill for this is GameSpeak. With only one button, Abe pronounce words and phrases that can be used to control other characters get help allies and so precious.
Another important skill is the possession of Sligs. This can be critical in certain situations, usually to remove other nearby enemies. However, in possession of a SLig, the character is immobile and vulnerable to attack.
The slave Mudokons are rescued through the portals of the birds. If the character is near a doorway and sing, this portal will activate and Mudokons will run and disappear. Rescuing Mudokons is not crucial to the game, but to rescue 50 of them is necessary for the ideal end of the adventure. In addition, many secret areas involve the rescue of one or two Mudokons.
